WORKOUT OF THE DAY

Please check Wodify for the workout of the day.

December 14, 2018

This is your 2019 hype-man speaking.

With the new year around the corner, there’s no better time for me to drop some old man knowledge and get everyone fired up for another year of training at CrossFit Stealth.

My goals? First, to give you goosebumps at least once by the time you are done reading this. But more importantly, to change the way you think about your training sessions for years to come.

This year marked my 10th year in the game. I was introduced to CrossFit as a rookie police officer by my sergeant in 2008.  The intensity of the program literally gave me flashbacks to some of my physical training in the Marines.  I knew immediately there was something special to this program. S...

He’s only 8, but he walks very slowly. I played baseball and basketball growing up, but was constantly shamed for playing too many video games and excessively watching movies. Wall balls, despite being very simple in concept, are often performed by athletes with flaws that drastically increase the energy expenditure required to perform the rep. Aside from an athlete not completing a full squat or the ball not touching the wall above the target line, below are the two most common faults I see while athletes perform wall balls.

1. Ball Positioning
Of all the flaws an athlete can exhibit during a wall ball, the position the athlete catches the ball and throws it from has the most significant impact on the energy expended to complete the rep. The most common flaw is catching the ball too low, i.e. below the face. By receiving the ball too low, the athlete then has to r...

Mental fortitude is a vital aspect of everyday life. Each day, we are faced with challenges at work or in our personal lives that require mental toughness to overcome. It is only fitting that we take this same principle and apply it to the realm of strength, endurance, and dedication to our own health and fitness.

The word “fortitude” is defined by expressing courage in the face of adversity. The first time each one of you stepped foot into CrossFit Stealth, you exerted this courage. By taking the first brave step to invest in yourself and your future, you created a pathway to more success. Whether you have been with us for a few weeks or a few years, consistently showing up is already half t...

What in the world is a superfood?

The term superfood, is generally used to describe whole foods that are nutrient (vitamins and minerals) dense and generally seen as good for your health. However, I have found that this term seems to be misleading for many people. They see “superfood” and think “oh I can eat as much of this as I want and I’ll be healthy. Some example foods are blueberries, avocados, chia seeds, almonds, and acai. Now I’m not about to get into where the research stands on each of these and whether or not they’re healthy (hint: most claims are overstated or misrepresented). Unfortunately, the majority of these have enough fat or carbohydrates in...

Should your training be about muscle size or muscle strength? Low reps, high weight or high reps, low weight? Lifting heavy or moving fast?

The truth is, all of the above. In order to build muscle size and strength leading to overall increased fitness, it requires a combination of both strength and hypertrophy weight training.

Sample Strength: 3x5 Back Squat at 80-85%

When you see this kind of programming, we are strength training. This means we are increasing the amount of force we can produce through our muscles (more weight, faster) by training our CNS to produce more force through your muscles (remember Coach Matt’s article?). We train...

This peak season for vacations, weekend getaways and road trips. Some days it’s impossible to do a drop in or the hotel ‘fitness room’ is nothing more than this:

So for those days you want to get a sweat in a short amount of time without the typical gym gear here are some suggestions beyond just running.

100s
Air squats
Push ups
Sit-ups
In any order or broken up.

EMOM Burpees
10 Burpees a minute for 10-20 minutes

**Add 30 to 60 seconds of max effort double unders to any of these work outs for extra heart rate boost.

If you have the luxury of running as well, break it up in what’s called ‘road work.’
Figure out a lap to run, each time you get back to starting point consider.

4 Rounds...
